Trained as a scientist, my career has moved from doctoral research in biotechnology through program management, digital transformation, and knowledge strategy — and the work has always centred on the same challenge: navigating complexity, driving transformation.
Scientific research and organisational transformation are more similar than they appear. Both involve systems that resist simple diagnosis, where the path from sound hypothesis to reliable outcome is often longer and less predictable than anticipated. That has shaped how I approach the work: building a holistic picture from evidence and perspectives across different angles, forming a clear hypothesis, deciding on direction, and developing the strategy and the framework. But the cycle does not end there — implementation surfaces new information, organisational reactions signal what is and is not working, and conditions shift. Staying close enough to recognise when the assumptions need revisiting and the approach needs adjusting is as much a part of the work as the initial strategy.
What I do
Over the past decade at Takeda, I have worked at the intersection of transformation, knowledge, data, and technology — leading initiatives end-to-end from concept and operating model design through to sustained adoption. A core focus has been helping organisations make knowledge accessible, governed, and reusable, applying structured knowledge models, semantic approaches, and AI-supported solutions to improve how knowledge is connected, accessed, and reused.
Alongside this, I have explored and operationalised emerging technologies including digital twins, augmented reality, and cobotics, building and operating digital lab environments that translate technological possibilities into practical, scalable solutions.
Background
I hold a PhD and MSc in biotechnology from Graz University of Technology, with research stays in Norway, Belgium, and Denmark. My doctoral work was in enzyme technology and biocatalysis, resulting in seven first-author publications and a patent. That training established habits of mind that have carried through into very different work: building an argument from evidence rather than from assumption, treating uncertainty as information rather than as a problem to be resolved, and remaining sceptical of explanations that arrive too quickly.
How I think
I am purpose-driven — the work has to matter beyond the deliverable. I am curious in a way that regularly takes me beyond my own field: into learning science, systems thinking, the social dimensions of technology, and the question of how people and organisations build the capacity to adapt. I am particularly interested in how knowledge, learning, and technology come together to shape organisational capability. And I care about building things that last — structures, frameworks, and cultures that continue to create value long after the transformation programme itself has ended.
I write about these topics and occasionally speak about them. The questions I find most interesting are not yet settled — which is precisely what makes them worth engaging with seriously.
Beyond work
I live in Vienna with my family. Outside of work I run and read — mostly across the same territory I work in, approached from a different angle.
